Apple Mint (Variegated)
Vareigated apple mint (Mentha suaveolens var. variegata) is a popular herb native to southern and western Europe grown for its culinary and ornamental value.
Mints grow to approximately 30-60cm in height with an indefinite spread, so are best grown in pots. Use a high-quality potting mix when potting and keep moist for best results, although mint will recover well from dry spells. Fertilise with a nitrogen-rich fertiliser to stimulate leaf growth when developing. Small mauve flowers will often emerge in late summer. Cut back hard twice a year to rejuvenate. Mint is frost tolerant.
